Keiki Hula Competition
On Friday, November 7th, at the Kaanapali Beach Hotel, the 18th Annual Hula O Na Keiki will be celebrated. This is a fantastic two-day event where you will be able to sample authentic Hawaiian culture at its most fun and dynamic. Children will compete against one another in solo hula performances, but there will also be Hawaiian arts & crafts and classes to make hula implements as well as other fun activities for guests and participants alike.
For those of you who are tempted to not take such an event seriously, I would strongly urge you to reconsider. In all likelihood you will be pleasantly surprised at the skill with which the little ones perform. Some past performers have done every bit as well as trained adult dancers! The benefits of this celebration are two-fold. You will be entertained with the keiki, and at the same time, the event gives the children a unique opportunity to nurture a deep appreciation for their cultural heritage, and strengthen their understanding of the true beauty of their ancestry. This tradition began in 1990, and we hope it will continue as long as there is a Hawaii to celebrate. And don't worry, every competing child recieves an award.
The event will continue from 9am to 10pm from Friday to Sunday. Tickets will be required for the hula contest More info can be found at the Hula O Na Keiki site. The Kaanapali Beach Hotel is located at 2525 Kaanapali Parkway. Call (808) 661-0011 for any further questions.
