Maui Marathon in Hana

The Hana 52-mile marathon will be run on September 12th, starting at 5:30a.m. This exciting marathon will actually start at Kahului Airport and finish at the Hana Ball Park.

To most of us, a marathon like this just sounds exhausting, but the runners get to enjoy a stunning journey through 617 curves, over 56 bridges and into some of the most beautiful jungle scenery Maui has to offer. If you are going to run a marathon, this is certainly the place to do it.

Runners will have teams of six members and divisions include everything from men's and women's to masters, aged 40 and older. All teams will qualify for the spirit competition that will be awarded on enthusiasm, coordination and sportsmanship both on and off the course. They'll even give extra points for fun van decorations and costumes.

After the race is run, there will be free refreshments, food, live music and awards. There will be food sold by a local charity. There is still a need for volunteers at this event. You can contact Joe Alueta at 243-9636 or e-mail at hanarelay@virr.com.
