National Unemployment Insurance Claims Down
According to recent U.S. Department of Labor data, unemployment insurance claims fell six percent nationwide in the week ending on Oct. 3rd. This was the lowest number since January and the Fourth fall in claims in the past five weeks.
Claims dropped to 521,000 for the week ending on October 3rd from 554,000 the week before. That's a difference of 33,000 claims. So the advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate came in at 4.5 percent as of the week that ended on September 26th.
California had the highest number of claims for the week ending on September 26th, followed by Ohio, Illinois, Missouri and Tennessee. New York claims decreased the most drastically, followed by North Carolina, South Carolina, Arkansas and Florida.
The real estate and economic slumps are very closely entwined. To see unemployment insurance claims on the downturn consistently is much-needed good news. Between current low price listings on homes, low interest rates on mortgages and fewer unemployment claims, it may be that the U.S. is stabilizing.
