Maui Community College Now University

The Maui Community College will no longer be considered just a community college. It has officially become the University of Hawaii Maui College.
The new name reflects the fact that the school offers 15 associate and two baccalaureate degrees. The latter of which are in applied science in business and information technology as well as applied science in engineering technology.
There are 4,078 students enrolled there currently but that number should increase thanks to the school's change in title, which is expected to spread awareness on its growing degree and career opportunities.
Chancellor Clyde Sakamoto has expressed that the administration plans to continue developing two and four-year programs and educational opportunities based on work-force needs for the region, state and country.
The college has educational centers in Lahaina, Hana, Kihei and Molokai, which will be updated as funds become available, according to UH officials.
There has also been a title change for community college provosts. They are now chancellors. The new title is not just a title. Chancellors have more authority.
It will be interesting to observe the growth of this college in the future because its status change will be made known to students all over the country and beyond. Being given the choice of attaining a degree on Maui will certainly draw many. As the university grows, there will be an increased challenge for Maui communities to accommodate more and more students.
